About the Route
This route takes you from the beautiful town of Clarens to a campsite just outside of Fouriesburg in the Meiringskloof Nature Reserve. The road surface is mainly tarred, winding through the hills. But a small part is a gravel road. Please be aware that after heavy rains there might be large wash aways and ruts in the gravel section. The start of the gravel section is a reasonably steep downhill from the mountain down towards the plains below. the views are stunning, but please pay attention to the road! Halfway down there is a nice flat stretch where you can stop to enjoy the scenery. There is some game around here (we saw blesbok) and it takes you past farms. I would suggest doing this route just after the raining season when it's the most stunning. As you get back on the tar it is a short ride to Meiringskloof where you can set up tent in the canyon and have a hike up towards the bushman paintings.
