Route 14 : Meiringskloof - Ladybrand

About the Route

This route takes you from the Meiringskloof campsite towards Ladybrand. The whole road is tarred, but the first part is the worst tar road we have ridden in South Africa. Trucks and other cars are a danger here, as they still try to maintain a high speed while swerving over the road and stopping quickly to avoid large potholes. Most of the tar is gone and locals seemed to try to fix it with concrete/loose stones/sand/gravel.... basically anything they can get their hands on. This makes it a very unpleasant road to ride and if you decide you do want to try it out, reduce your speed and be vigilant. The second half of the route becomes better and there are several nice things to do. You can have a stop, like we did, at the cherry farmstall.
