About the Route
This route takes you from Lady Brand to Zastron via a very scenic road. Best time to ride here would be after the rains when everything is lush, in winter everything is a bit dull and brown. It is a mixture of tar and gravel, but the gravel section is easy and suitable for novices. There are some bad sections of tar, as seems to be standard in the Freestate, but overall it is not too bad. If you are happy to be really local, you can stop in Hobhouse and buy some basic snacks items for lunch at the small local supermarket. The town of Hobhouse is not kept up very well, but the people seem very friendly. We ended up in Zastron at a lovely campsite (mountain view Zastron). It is owned by an elder local and was completely deserted when we got there. But it was a lovely well kept campground with power, so I do not understand why it is not more visited.
