Route 16 : Zastron - Lady Grey

About the Route

This route takes you from Zastron to Lady Grey. It is completely tarred and takes you through a lot of local villages, so be aware of cattle, people crossing and trucks. The scenery is mountainous with a few nice viewpoints. The road is in reasonably good condition. You are crossing from the Freestate into the Eastern Cape by going over the Orange River. Lady Grey is a nice little town in an absolute amazing setting. There is a gravel road leading upwards to the top of the mountain behind Lady Grey towards a viewpoint. Lady Grey is also the start of the Joubert's pass, a steep gravel road. We did not have the skills to tackle this pass after heavy rains that night, so we did not (yet) do this pass.
