About the Route
This route takes you from the historical town of Graaff Reinet past he Sunday river all the way to Steytlerville. Leaving Graaff Reinet we are quickly turning onto the gravel roads just outside of town and hit the vast flat plains of the Karoo. The route follows all along the Sundays river towards the town of Jansenville. Just before you hit Jansenville there is a small water crossing with some loose rocks, but nothing to worry about. At Jansenville we leave the Sunday behind us and head towards Klipplaat (note the big old train next to the road!). From here we turn on another super smooth gravel road. It only turns back to tar at the junction where you will turn right towards Waaipoort. This is a beautiful poort and a welcome change in scenery after the flatness of today. It takes you into the town of Steytlerville, where the signboards of the founding families greet you all along the main road. We camped at the backpackers right in the middle of town, which can be convenient if you would like to have some drinks and a bite to eat.
