Route 52 : Aliwal North - Ladybrand

About the Route

This route takes you from Aliwal North to Lady Brand through typical Freestate scenery. It is mainly gravel roads with a stop in-between in Wepener. The gravel roads are generally in better state than the tar roads. Some section are very smooth and even we managed to hit the 90 km/h mark on these gravel roads. I would suggest riding at the end of the raining season as the scenery will be much more beautiful. The route ends just before Lady Brand at a lovely farmhouse stay Villa St Joseph with a stunning view at the cliff. The costs at the time was about R350 for both of us in a nice self containing unit, the cheapest we have found as of yet.
